2017The demographic transition in Slovakia from the point of view of fertility began in the early 20th century. In connection with these changes in fertility in Slovakia in the first half of the 20th century there was a significant and historically unique transformation of the intensity and the character of age-specific fertility rates. The main aim of this paper is to analyse the changes in fertility of the Slovak population in the first half of the 20th century in connection with the onset and spread of the demographic transition. Special attention is paid to the level of voluntary fertility restriction and its impact on the intensity and nature of the process of fertility.
