Communist Movement, Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ), First Republic, social tension, Czech GermansThis study focuses on Communist youth in the First Czechoslovak Republic and shows the importanceit had for the Communist Party (KSČ). Against a background describing the organisation ofthe youth movement in the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia the authors analyse the party propagandadiscourse constructing the class-based international identity as a bedrock of desirable politicalconsciousness. KSČ was the only interwar party in the Czechoslovak Republic to welcome to itsranks members of all ethnic groups living in its territory. The constructed class identity generatedtension with international identity as illustrated with an example of young Germans.
