peasant scribe, peasant scribe’s historical consciousness, historiography, modernisation of societyThe paper examines the phenomenon of the peasant scribe, who can be characterised as a ‘transitional’type of the country man of learning in the process of modernisation of Czech society in the18th and the first half of the 19th century. His interpretations of events and processes are based on hisexperience of life and the world he lives in.
