Jedná se o komplexní a proměnlivý fenomén, který je možno zkoumat z více úhlů. Tato diplomová práce sociologie, jejíž základy položil Erving Goffman ve své knize Všichni hrajeme divadlo prostředí online sociálních sítí chovají, jakým způsobem zde tvoří - přední a zadní. Práce nejdříve čtenáře seznamuje s zasazuje do společenského i technologického kontextu. druhé části práce je provedena kvalitativní obsahová analýza 50 facebookových profilů a 733 příspěvků, které zde byly v průběhu jednoho měsíce publikovány, jejímž výsledkem je určení několika základních způsobů tvorby a prezentace identity uživatele, a popsání sekundárních rolí, které jsou performovány komentujícími uživateli. Zjištění jsou doplněna ještě polostrukturovanými rozhovory s osmi respondenty, umožňujícími blíže se věnovat jejich používání Facebooku, podobě sociálních interakcí, zde probíhajících, jejich motivaci publikování příspěvků, impression managementu i řešení střetu různých publik.
