dc.description | The Old Kingdom tomb images have been frequentlystudied, especially on the basis of their orientation andcontent in relation to tomb architecture; and also theoreticaland methodical aspects of their interpretation havebeen scrutinized. This paper aims to focus on the specificsociological perspective of the tomb reliefs, which has notyet been elaborated. The author of this study concentrateson the identified individuals in the tomb of Ptahshepses –a vizier from the time of Nyuserre and husband of hisdaughter, Khamerernebty. An analysis of the titles givento particular persons portrayed on the walls, as well as anexamination of the social hierarchy reflected in the scenes, was undertaken in order to reconstruct the vizieral household/courtand to present possible interpretations of itscomposition. The data from a large corpus of mason’smarks preserved herein, which includes personal namesand titles, is also taken into account, enabling to recorda more complex and precise image of the society at thattime. | |
