| dc.description | Professor Zbyněk Žába laid, through his scholarly andorganizational activities at the end of the 1950s and duringthe 1960s, the foundations for today’s success of the CzechEgyptology. In addition to extensive archaeological rescueoperations in Lower Nubia, he intensely devoted his attentionto the archaeological excavation of the mastaba ofvizier Ptahshepses built in the central part of the Abusirnecropolis (1960–1970). Despite the fact that Žába wasa philologist, he tried to use up-to-date archaeologicalmethods in his work.
