Empedokleova kosmologie

Abstract

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to demonstrate how were the presocratic philosophers thinking about the creation of the world. The first part is focused on a brief description of the life of Empedocles, as well as it defines main conceptions of the idea of cosmology. The main part of the thesis is trying to analyse four elements, which we can hold as substances. Besides for their paramount role in Empedocles' cosmology, they are also mentioned since Empedocles is often understood as their founder. The following chapter explains the problem of Love and Strife which both cooperate with the four elements and they all participate on creation and destruction. This chapter is introducing us to the problems of cosmic cycles and Sfairos, which are often considered to be the major phenomenon of Empedocles' cosmology and philosophy. These ideas are also described here because of the possible comparison of various religious trends and religious thinking.

V bakalářské práci Empedokleova kosmologie jsem se pokusil nastínit, jakým způsobem uvažovali presokratici nad vznikem světa. V první části se práce věnuje stručnému popsání Empedokleova života. Dále definuje alespoň v základním pojetí termín kosmologie. První stěžejní částí je kapitola rozebírající čtyři prvky, které lze také pojmout jako živly. Kromě jejich téměř nezpochybnitelné role v Empedokleově kosmologii jsou zmíněny také proto, že Empedoklés bývá často považován za jejich vynálezce. Následuje kapitola věnující se problematice Lásky a Sváru, které se čtyřmi prvky kooperují a na tvorbě a zániku se podílejí společně. Tato kapitola připravuje pole pro popsání kosmických cyklů a s nimi souvisejícího Sfairu, který je leckdy považován za zásadní fenomén Empedokleovy kosmologie a filosofie. Popsání těchto myšlenek může být v dnešní době zajímavé například kvůli porovnání jednotlivých náboženských směrů a náboženského myšlení.
