Majetkové poměry a životní strategie vdov v 18. století na příkladu Starého Města pražského

Abstract

Předkládaná práce se zabývá vdovami jako neopomenutelnou součástí městské společnosti 18. století. Specifické postavení nejen sociální, ale i právní, které vdovský stav nabízel, umožňoval vdovám určitou svobodu, co se týče majetkoprávních poměrů. Případová studie, která se zaměřuje na reprezentativní vzorek vdov Starého Města pražského druhé třetiny 18. století, analyzuje jejich majetkové poměry a životní strategie za pomoci dochovaných pozůstalostních inventářů a testamentů, které jsou případně doplněny dalšími prameny úřední povahy. Cílem je zjistit, jakým způsobem vypadal vdovský majetek, jaké byly formy životních strategií vdov a na základě jakých faktorů ženy tyto strategie volily. Prvně představuje práce prameny, jejichž okolnosti vzniku a právní praxe zásadně ovlivňuje jejich studium, a také metodiku výběru vzorku pro případovou studii. V další části práce zasazuje autorčinu rešerši do dobového evropského a následně staroměstského kontextu z právního hlediska a z pohledu existenčního a společenského jednání vdov. Hlavní částí práce je samotná analýza životních příběhů čtyř vybraných vdov.

This thesis deals with widows as an integral and often overlooked part of 18th century urban society. The widow's status offered a specific position not only socially but also legally, which allowed widows a certain degree of freedom, particularly in matters of property rights. The case study focuses on a representative sample of widows from the Old Town of Prague during the second third of the 18th century and analyzes their property circumstances and life strategies using preserved probate inventories and wills, supplemented, where applicable, by other official sources. The aim is to determine the nature of widows' property, the forms of life strategies they employed, and the factors influencing their choices. The thesis first presents the sources, discussing the circumstances of their origin and the legal practices that fundamentally affect their interpretation, as well as the methodology used to select the sample for the case study. The following section places the author's research into the broader contemporary european and local context, both from a legal perspective and in terms of the existential and social behavior of widows. The main part of the thesis is the analysis of the life stories of four selected widows.
