Conceptualization of Home Within Palestinian Resistance Literature

Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to thoroughly investigate the theoretical conceptualization of home within the context of Palestinian resistance literature, utilizing a selection of contemporary novels as a representative sample, with particular emphasis on Susan Abulhawa's Mornings in Jenin and Saḥar Khalīfa's aṣ-Ṣabbār. The research delves into the exploration of the pursuit of home and a sense of belonging, while also examining the intricate interplay between home and resistance, along with the ensuing implications arising from this relationship. Furthermore, it endeavors to scrutinize related phenomena, notably the concepts of house, exile, and identity, posited to unveil the latent implications of home distinctive to Palestinian literary creation. This pursuit is predicated on the conviction that all prevalent elements, facets, and concepts in Palestinian literature are inherently linked to the multifaceted notion of home; they either emanate from it or are shaped by it, and this thesis endeavors to substantiate this assertion. Cieľom dizertačnej práce je dôkladne preskúmať teoretickú konceptualizáciu domova v kontexte palestínskej literatúry odporu za využitia reprezentatívnej vzorky vybraných súčasných románov, s osobitným dôrazom na román Mornings in Jenin od Susan Abulhawy a román aṣ-Ṣabbár od Saḥar Chalífy. Výskum sa ponára do problematiky hľadania domova a pocitu spolupatričnosti, pričom analyzuje aj zložitú súhru medzi domovom a odporom a následne dôsledky vyplývajúce z tohto komplexného vzťahu. Práca sa do veľkej miery opiera o súvisiace fenomény, akými sú koncepty domu, exilu a identity, ktoré majú doplniť latentné implikácie analyzovaného konceptu charakteristické pre palestínsku literárnu tvorbu. Toto úsilie vychádza z presvedčenia, že všetky prvky, aspekty a koncepty prevládajúce v palestínskej literatúre sú neodmysliteľne spojené s mnohotvárnym poňatím domova; buď z neho vychádzajú, alebo sú ním formované. Pevným teoretickým základom práce je zároveň navrhovaný predpoklad, že rámec odporu je neodmysliteľne spojený s konceptom domova.
