Abstract

Forensic entomology and its use in criminal investigations Abstract The thesis addresses the field of forensic entomology and its use in criminal investigations, especially in cases of deaths from unclear causes. Although forensic entomology is a field of applied biology, this thesis - drawing on natural science sources - presents it in as detailed a context as possible while placing it in the criminal-legal context of criminal proceedings, which the forensic entomologist enters as an expert witness. The results of the forensic entomological examination are usable in the investigation in the form of an expert opinion. The thesis draws information from experts in the field and also analyses data provided by the Institute of Criminalistics of the Police of the Czech Republic, which prepares the opinions, and the Judicial Academy, which provides lifelong education for judges and prosecutors - i.e. persons who can best use the field in their work. Since the work combines the personal experiences from the practice of the interviewed experts together with statistical data that are not published anywhere in a comprehensive way, this work represents a unique insight into the scientific field in terms of its practical use. Forenzní entomologie a její využití při vyšetřování trestné činnosti Abstrakt Diplomová práce se zabývá oborem forenzní entomologie a jejím využitím při vyšetřování trestné innosti, zejména pak v případech úmrtí z nejasných příin. Akoli je forenzní entomologie oborem aplikované biologie, tato práce - erpajíc z přírodovědných zdrojů - jej představuje v co možná nejdetailnějších souvislostech a zároveň jej zasazuje do kriminalisticko-právního kontextu trestního řízení, do nějž forenzní entomolog vstupuje jako soudní znalec. Výstupy forenzně entomologického zkoumání jsou při vyšetřování využitelné ve formě znaleckého posudku. Práce erpá informace od odborníků z praxe a zároveň analyzuje data poskytnutá Kriminalistickým ústavem Policie eské republiky, která posudky vypracovává, a Justiní akademií, která zajišťuje celoživotní vzdělávání soudců a státních zástupců - tedy osob, které mohou při své práci obor nejlépe využít. Vzhledem k tomu, že práce kombinuje osobní zkušenosti z praxe dotazovaných odborníků spolu se statistickými daty, která nejsou nikde uceleně publikovaná, představuje tato práce unikátní vhled do vědeckého oboru z hlediska jeho praktického využívání.
