Politická kariéra lorda Randolpha Churchilla v 80. letech 19. století

Abstract

Má práce se zabývá politickou kariérou lorda Randolpha Churchilla v 80. letech 19. století. Krátce analyzuji jeho život před rokem 1880. Těžištěm mé práce je pak období mezi lety 1880-1887. Podrobuji analýze Randolphovy vztahy s ostatními členy Dolní sněmovny. Zaměřuji se na jeho politické názory a jakou roli hrál při utváření tzv. čtvrté strany a toryovské demokracie, v Bradlaughově aféře nebo při projednávání Land Law (Ireland Act) z roku 1881. Dále analyzuji Radolphovo dvojí působení ve vládě a příčiny jeho náhlého politického konce. Závěrem hodnotím Randolphův politický odkaz.

My thesis examines the political career of Lord Randolph Churchill in the 1880s. I briefly analyse his life before 1880. The focus of my thesis is then the period between 1880 and 1887. I analyse Randolph's relations with other members of the House of Commons. I focus on his political views and what role he played in the formation of the so-called Fourth Party and Tory Democracy, in the Bradlaugh Affair or in the passage of the Land Law (Ireland Act), 1881. I also analyse Radolph's dual tenure in government and the reasons for his sudden political demise. I conclude with an assessment of Randolph's political legacy.
