Vliv katolické církve na politiku Irské republiky

Abstract

Tato práce se zabývá vývojem vlivu katolické církve na politiku Irské republiky v období od roku 1937 až do současnosti. Klade si za cíl určit způsoby, jakými katolická církev a její představitelé ovlivňovali irskou politiku, jak se tento vliv vyvíjel a jaký je jeho současný stav. Práce analyzuje nejvýznamnější události, které ukazují vliv katolické církve na irskou společenskou a politickou sféru. Zaměřuje se na kariéru a činy arcibiskupa Dublinu Johna Charlese McQuaida a zkoumá, jakým způsobem dokázal během své činnosti ovlivňovat politická rozhodnutí a vládu v Irsku. Pro tento účel využívá příkladů vývoje legislativy přezdívané Mother and Child Scheme a vývoje cenzury tištěných publikací. Na těchto příkladech ukazuje, jakým způsobem byla katolická církev schopná ovlivnit tvorbu a upravování legislativy, složení vlády a svobodu slova a tisku. Dále práce analyzuje metody katolické církve, kterými manipulovala s veřejným názorem a tímto způsobem ovlivňovala výsledky ústavních referend. V práci jsou podrobně rozebrány jednotlivá referenda, v jejichž přijímacím procesu se katolická církev angažovala, jejich výsledky a případné další budoucí změny. This bachelor thesis examines the development of the Catholic Church's influence on politics in the Republic of Ireland from 1937 to the present day. It aims to identify the ways in which the Catholic Church and its leaders have influenced Irish politics, how this influence has evolved and what its current status is. The thesis analyses the most significant events that show the influence of the Catholic Church on the Irish social and political sphere. It focuses on the career and deeds of John Charles McQuaid, Archbishop of Dublin, and examines how he was able to influence political decisions and government in Ireland during his time in office. To do this, it uses examples of the development of legislation known as the Mother and Child Scheme and the development of censorship of printed publications. Using these examples, it shows how the Catholic Church was capable of influencing the creation and modification of legislation, the composition of government and freedom of speech and the press. The thesis also analyses the methods by which the Catholic Church manipulated public opinion and in this way influenced the outcome of constitutional referendums.
