Catcalling očima žen: případová studie

Abstract

The aim of my master thesis Catcalling through women's eyes: a case study is to present the issue of catcalling from the perspective of women as frequent victims of this type of harassment. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part I will discuss what catcalling is, what it can look like and where we can encounter it. I will also look at the power aspects of this type of harassment and what effects it can have on women's mental health. In the empirical part I will then discuss my research. This is qualitative research where I have chosen semi-structured interviews as my method and my communication partners are women who have some experience with catcalling. Therefore, I use the interviews to find out how the women in question define catcalling, what their personal or mediated experience of it is, and what strategies or responses they choose when they have to cope with this type of behaviour. I am also interested in what the effects of catcalling on mental health may be and whether the women in question feel affected by their experience of catcalling in other areas of their lives. Cílem mé diplomové práce Catcalling očima žen: Případová studie je představit problematiku catcallingu z pohledu žen, jakožto častých obětí tohoto typu obtěžování. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a empirickou. V teoretické části se budu zabývat tím, co to vlastně catcalling je, jak může vypadat a kde se s ním můžeme setkat. Taktéž se budu zabývat mocenskými aspekty tohoto typu obtěžování a jaké může mít dopady na psychické zdraví žen. V empirické části se pak věnuji svému výzkumu. Jedná se o kvalitativní výzkum, kde jsem jako metodu zvolila polostrukturované rozhovory a mými komunikačními partnerkami jsou ženy, které mají s catcallingem nějakou zkušenost. Na základě rozhovorů s nimi tedy zjišťuji, jak dotyčné ženy catcalling definují, jakou s ním mají osobní či zprostředkovanou zkušenost a jaké strategie či reakce volí, musí-li se s tímto typem chování vyrovnat. Taktéž mě v této práci zajímá, jaké mohou být dopady catcallingu na psychické zdraví a zda se dané ženy cítí svou zkušeností s catcallingem ovlivněny i v jiných oblastech jejich života.
