uk.abstract.en | The adjective καρπάλιμος ‘swift’ (H.+) is argued to be based on a reduplicated adjective *ku̯ l̥[h1 ]-ku̯ l̥ h1 -o- ‘turning’ from PIE *ku̯ elh1 - ‘to turn’, dissimilated to *kalku̯ alo- and further to *karpalo-. The form in -imo- can derive from the corresponding abstract noun in -i- and/or be extracted from compounds with *karpali- as first member following models like καλλιπλόκαμος : κάλλιμος. | cs |
