Hwarang: historie a mytologie

Abstract

Hwarangs are members of an organization of young men that operated in the Three kingdom period and in Unified Silla at the Korean territory and was used as a protection of the state - spiritually and military-wise. This thesis describes the history, structure and function of the Hwarang organization along with personal stories of individual hwarangs with the help of traditional Korean chronicles Samguk Sagi and Samguk Yusa. Hwarang segi, the hwarang biographies got discovered at the end of the 20th century, is discussed in the second part of the thesis and the thesis is trying to argue why it is a work of fiction. The main reason of it being a work of fiction are major inconsistencies in context when comparing the content of the Hwarang segi and the two traditional chronicles. The final section reflects on how hwarangs and Hwarang segi have influenced modern Korean culture.

Hwarangové jsou členové organizace mladých mužů, která sloužila v období korejských Tří království a Sjednocené Silly k obraně státu - vojensky i duchovně. Tato práce popisuje historii, strukturu a funkci hwarangské organizace spolu s osobními příběhy jednotlivých hwarangů za pomoci tradičních korejských kronik Samguk sagi a Samguk jusa. Ve druhé části se práce věnuje Hwarang segi, životopisům hwarangů, které se objevily na konci 20. století, a snaží se odůvodnit, proč se jedná o fiktivní dílo. Hlavním důvodem jsou zásadní nesrovnalosti v kontextu při porovnání obsahu Hwarang segi a dvou tradičních kronik. V poslední části se zamýšlí nad tím, jak hwarangové a Hwarang segi ovlivnilo moderní korejskou kulturu.
