Abstract

This diploma thesis Role and Significance of Joseph in the Gospel of Matthew is divided into five chapters. The first two chapters are an essential basis for a study of the next three chapters that are the core of this thesis. Thanks to these, it can be said who Joseph is. The first chapter deals with the linguistic and literary analysis of the first two chapters of the Gospel of Matthew, since these two chapters are seen as a source of exploration into Joseph's character. The second chapter of this thesis is concerned with a synoptic comparison of the gospel texts which speak about Joseph. The third chapter follows up on Joseph's position, task and role in Jesus's genealogy, as recorded by Matthew. The fourth chapter follows up Joseph's role as Mary's husband. The biblical narration is put into the context of entering into a Jewish marriage with all the sequences of events and requirements. Further, the fourth chapter elaborates on Joseph's role as Jesus's father before the Law, including all the rights and obligations Joseph had to fulfil towards Jesus. Diplomová práce Role a význam Josefa v Matoušově evangeliu je rozčleněna do pěti kapitol, přičemž první dvě kapitoly vytvářejí nezbytný základ pro práci ve zbývajících třech kapitolách, které jsou těžištěm celé práce. Díky tomu, může být v samém závěru zhodnoceno, kým Josef je. První kapitola věnuje pozornost jazykové a literární analýze prvních dvou kapitol Matoušova evangelia, protože právě v těchto dvou kapitolách je spatřován pramen v nazírání Josefovy postavy. Druhá kapitola této diplomové práce přistupuje k synoptickému srovnání evangelijních textů hovořících o Josefovi. Třetí kapitola se zabývá hledáním Josefovy postavy v rodokmenu Ježíše Krista zaznamenaném v Matoušově evangeliu, jejím postavením a úlohy v něm. Čtvrtá kapitola zpracovává Josefovu roli Mariina manžela, kdy je biblický příběh zasazen do kontextu židovského uzavírání sňatku se všemi jeho časovými posloupnostmi a náležitostmi. Dále tato kapitola zpracovává Josefovu roli Ježíšova otce před zákonem s vyjasněním práv a povinností, které Josef vůči Ježíšovi měl. Pátá kapitola pojednává z hlediska Josefovy postavy o druhé kapitole Matoušova evangelia. Josef je zde umístěn do historických, politických a sociálních souvislostí. Pozornost je zde rovněž věnována důvěře mezi Bohem a Josefem, na jejímž základě je postaven celý Josefův život.
